Are You a Genius?

A quote from Dr. Orison Swett Marden states “There is genius in persistence.”

Do you sometimes get discouraged when things don’t happen as fast as you think they should?

Are you working on losing weight and it seems to take forever?

I often get discouraged when things don’t happen as fast as I would like. I remember when I was learning to speak German my first year of college. It seemed to take forever just to learn how to put a few words together.

I was living in the German House dormitory and many of the students in there had studied German in high school or their parents were native German.

Needless to say, many times I would feel so defeated by the language and wonder why I had made the decision to live in that dorm.

Yet an amazing thing happened during my second semester. I got the wonderful opportunity to travel to Germany to study for four months. Imagine my surprise when I arrived there and found myself speaking German to an elderly woman on a train. She did not speak English and we were able to carry on a conversation entirely in German. I realized then that even though I made a lot of mistakes and felt as though I was making no progress learning German, living in the German house had given me the opportunity to feel comfortable and confident enough to carry on a conversation in German.

As a weight loss coach, even I still struggle with choosing the right foods to maintain my weight loss.

I want things to be easier.

I want things to happen faster.

But when I step on the scale and see the numbers are still going down, I know that my body is ever-changing and evolving. My mind often has not yet caught up with everything that is happening.

So I encourage you to consider this famous quote attributed to Albert Einstein:

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Are you hindering or stifling the forward progress of your growth because you fail to see what your efforts have already brought forth?

Be patient. Simply your intent has already put the wheels of motion into place. You are a genius. Allow the progress to manifest. Eventually, you will blow your own mind!
